With active participation from members across North & South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, we’re building a truly global community committed to accelerating AI innovation in the energy sector.
Membership has now surpassed 200 organizations, a major milestone. We are now shifting from growth to execution.
Our work groups have begun meeting and are the place where the first set of OPAI outcomes will be developed. We need your help! To get involved with one of the work groups, please coordinate with your company’s Open Power AI Consortium Member Representative Committee (MRC) representative or email OpenPowerAI@epri.com and include the name of the work group you would like to join.
Use Case Survey – We NEED YOU!!
One of the most requested OPAI resources has been a compiled list of energy sector AI use cases. We're excited to announce that the Use Case Survey is now live! EPRI has collected over 250 use cases for power industry applications organized by asset and function. We are now collecting feedback on use case priorities, risks, and solution maturity. We need your help – please use the survey links below to complete the survey for use cases in your areas of responsibility. You do NOT need to complete all use cases, but please share the survey link internally with peers to get feedback on as many areas as possible.
If you are a technology provider (vendor, research institute, or other technology provider) please share and fill out the OPAI Use Case Technology Provider Survey
Your contributions will help us build a shared repository of high-impact AI applications across the energy value chain. This effort will help us to prioritize the most valuable global use cases for AI in the power industry to work on together as well as match high priority use cases with mature technologies, ready to be implemented. The survey will close on November 30th, so please be sure to respond now!
As an added bonus, organizations that respond will receive a customized report showing their aggregated results compared to the overall results!
Work Group Updates – Progress in Motion
Our work groups have begun meeting and will be instrumental in driving forward key initiatives within the consortium. Each work group includes a lead (see image below) as well as a healthy group of experts from across the consortium to drive innovation forward across our workstreams.
Electric Sector Domain-specific model Work Group
Use Case Work Group (see the survey released above)
Implementation Work Group
These groups will expand as needed to meet the needs of the consortium and we are happy to announce the formation of a fourth work group, the Data Sharing Work Group!
Expect detailed updates from each Work Group Lead in the coming weeks. If you would like to join one of these work groups, please contact your company’s Member Representative Committee member, email OpenPowerAI@epri.com, and include the work group lead below.
OpenSynth – Join the Open Data Movement
OpenSynth is a collaborative initiative between the Centre for Net Zero, LF Energy, and various partners to democratize access to synthetic and real energy data.
OpenSynth aims to:
Generate synthetic datasets for energy research and modeling
Share real and synthetic data to train advanced AI models
Accelerate decarbonization through open, AI-ready data ecosystems
📣 Call for Volunteers: The OPAI consortium is partnering with CNZ and LF Energy to accelerate access to high-quality real and synthetic data with an initial goal of developing a database of real and synthetic AMI and grid topology data. If you have relevant data that could be used to create secure synthetic data or be shared openly (or if you're simply curious), reach out to faraday@centrefornetzero.orgto get involved.
🏆 EPRI Global AI Challenge – Accelerating Cost Modeling
The AI-ccelerating Production Cost Modeling Competition is now live! Hosted by EPRI, this challenge invites participants to develop AI models that enhance production cost modeling using real-world data from the Irish Power System.

IncubatEnergy Labs – Call for Proposals
Looking to pilot your AI solution in a real-world energy environment with some of the largest and most influential utilities in the world? IncubatEnergy Labs, hosted by EPRI, is now accepting proposals for paid demonstration opportunities. To date, over 80 demonstrations have been completed and over $10M in funding awarded.
These opportunities are open to global startup companies and may involve host and partner utilities and a Demo Day presentation to showcase the work. The demonstrations provide you with access to both utility and EPRI experts to support your project and no equity stake is taken. Past projects include PanoAI, Ping Things, Utilidata, and more. Proposals are due by November 15th.
The Open Power AI Consortium is more than a network, it’s a movement. As we grow, so does our ability to shape the future of energy through AI. Let’s keep the momentum going.
Have news, ideas, or feedback?Reach out to the OPAI team. We’re always looking to spotlight member contributions and amplify your impact.
